The typical characteristics of the Mirandês Plateau near the Douro River in Sendim, are especially favorable to produce very good wines.

Loyal to traditional procedures and free of chemical treatments, the productions are of small scale and in proper cellar.

Marcolino Fernandes is a retired teacher that has been dedicated to basketry in the recent years, recovering a tradition that had fallen into disuse.

He is responsible for the entire production process: picking the materials for the baskets he creates according to your taste and imagination.

You easily find a wicker craftsman working in a garage converted into an “atelier”. He participates in markets and exhibitions.

What started as a hobby quickly became a way of life. Francisco Cangueiro, professional craftsman works wood for over 30 years. It is a constant presence in the most reputable Craft Fairs in the country and also in neighboring Spain, always presenting live work.

The Palaçoulo knives, internationally known, are the main feature of this craftsman but his work is much more diverse, creating the most varied parts in wooden frames, ornaments, etc..

Moisés Elias Fernandes is a professional carpenter. He’s knowledge about wood associated with the fact of being such a religious man, led him do occupy his free time with creating handcrafted religious figures. Such passion occupies long working hours of his day.

He works on demand, frequently participates in restoring pieces from churches, and also makes a good amount of pieces by his own taste.

His work doesn’t follow a set price list, “everything depends on the work in question”. Proudly displays a small altar of the Holy Family, busts of religious figures, saints, and also ornamental pieces such as lamps, hall tables, bull wagon, etc.

A simple broken branch can serve to create a beautiful floral arrangement. To do that you need art and creativity, and these are the ingredients that  Paulo Pereira has. It is in nature that reaps all the raw material it uses in its work, twigs, pieces of wood, seeds, roots, rocks, and so many other things that later turns into beautiful adornments.

This Craftsman participates in Regional Craft Fairs and does custom work. Simple adornment to furniture, and he is always open to new challenges.

This young artist found his therapy in his great talent for painting.

Claudio makes oil paintings, linking to his creative work all the techniques that he learns. He has had several exhibitions, always attracting much curiosity because of the will to live he manifests and also the agility with witch despite all its limitations he paints.

He paints half his paintings “upside down” , by turning around the paint to continue drawing, with the same ease, because he can’t raise his arm to the top of the painting.

He was a young “Pauliteiro”. The taste for this traditional Miranda’s dance led him to learn to play the harmonica Bagpipers and is currently one of the most sought pipers in the area.

In his spare time he is also a craftsman who builds the sticks of Pauliteiros, castanets, and especially bagpipes.  He works with exotic wood. Although he does not have a wide variety of pieces, he prefers to work on demand, selling much of his production to France and Brazil.
