Distinguished as one of the best ten camping spaces of the country (Visão magazine 2012) it is the only private camping in the northeast region. Located in a mountain area of dense forest of chestnut trees, oaks and cherry trees and referenced by IGESPAR as an ancient roman settlement.

Opened since 1993 it is a calm and familiar place. You can visit a giant handmade knife, more than 2 meters tall registered in the Guinness World Records Book. In the surrounding area you can find a number of pedestrian trails.

6 bungalows: small traditional houses made of stone and wood, of one or two rooms, each with an extra sofa bed, kitchenette, a bathroom and a small deck.

Totally equipped with the basic necessities, such as a fridge, microwave oven and electric heaters. Water is heated by solar panels. They are very comfortable mountain shelters.

With 40 places / individual places very spacey and shady destined for tents and caravans with a total capacity for 140 people.

The places have a lot of autonomy to guaranty the best comfort and privacy. Open all year.

Description: In Picot a berrão (proto-historic statues of stone, carved in full relief with zoomorphic figures) was found in 1952 in an area where archeological findings of an ancient sanctuary linked to fertility rituals until the 4th century. This zoomorphic sculpture is placed in the Church´s plaza.

Description: two floor baroque manor. The first floor presents two doors and two windows and in the second floor six windows/doors, with a balcony of forged iron.

Date: 15th century (1409-1449).

Description: The Torre de Menagem is a Gothic building. Quadrangular with three floors and has 33 meters high and 17 wide. The first floor of the tower is accessed through a vertical entrance hall. Here you can find the Military Museum of Bragança, where artillery pieces can be found. The collection of the Museum, which is quite representative of the evolution of small arms from the 16th century until the beginning of the 20th century, is divided between the three floors of the tower.

Date: 19th century (around 1804, most likely).

Description: facade in blue and white tiles, flanked by two vessels, crowned by a pediment. On the second disc, featuring two urns on the corners and a Latin cross on a socket at the top.

State of conservation: very good.

Legends and traditions: on the façade there is a niche where devotees turn on the candles, symbol of his promises.

Description: Located in Arrabalde square, it is a building of mid-17th century, decorated with the symbols of the Morais family. There is an inscription that describes the victory to the Spanish troops in 1666, surrounded by the people.

“Estêvão de Mariz, Governor of this village, son of Pedro de Morais de Tuizelo, had these homes built ofter the where destroyed by general Pantoxa of the army of Galicia, (…) and defended the wall with the noble people of the village. With losing much, lifted the siege and burned the houses that stood outside the walls”.

Date: modern age

Description: directly in the portal is a triangular pediment, which houses a niche with the image of Santo Estevão, which appears round porthole. Inside there are altars of gilded and polychrome carving. On the altar are the images of Santo Estevão and Santo Andre. Legends and traditions: this parish celebrate the holidays of Santo Estevão, also known as boys fest or Caretos fest (December 26th).

Dating: the 15th century (probable date of its construction).

Classification: VC (Dec. nº29/90, DR 163 de 17 Julho 1990).

Description: bridge of 5 perfect round arches, being the centre one the largest, whose foundations are based directly on the ground. The crowning of the guards is made of stone with rounded top and remaining part of these with carved stone placed upwards. Has 30.6 meters long, maximum height of 5 meters. The floor is a type Portuguese sidewalk.

State of conservation; good.

The Convent of Balsamão has a part reserved for guests – House Retreat and Rest of Balsamão with central heating, 37 rooms with private bathroom, lounge andsatellite TV, conference room meetings or seminars, restaurant, bar and party hall for weddings, baptisms and
other gatherings.
The retreat house and rest of the Convent of Balsamão, as the name implies, is intended to spiritual retreats, courses, seminars, or simply relaxing a vacation away from the hustle of big cities.
People who are Hosted in the Convent may participate in the prayers of the religious community, if they so wish.

Vieux of Oranges-trees cloister.
The Convent of Balsamão is located in the north-east, Trás-os-Montes, in the heart of Bragança county, at 57 km from the city, 17 km away from Macedo de Cavaleiros and 4 km from the village of Chacim. The Balsamão hill is watered by river Azibo, in the south, with a small roman bridge lain across, and by the stream of Chacim in the north.
As high as 522 m, the small hill has very particular micro-climate that allows the growth of the orange-tree and the almond-tree, making the landscape astonishing when the bloom starts.
Party hall for weddings.
Facing it you find the Bornes Mountain, once called “honey hill” with its fertile valleys and hillocks. The visitor, among other touristic points, has the chance to see the roman bridges mentioned before, the village of Malta, once a property of the military order with the same name, which is closely connected to the history of Balsamão, the damming of Azibo with
its magnificent fluvial beach.
The Balsamão hill is an isolated place where you can enjoy the beauty of the nature and the silence.
The Historic memory of the convent is compose by the church( sanctuary of our lady of Balsamão), a small and old cloister and the room of the honour-able Frey Casimiro that conquers the tourists by its meaning, beauty and simplicity.
In the Convent lives a religious community, the Marians of the Immaculate Conception who owns the Convent. They offer a shelter for pilgrims and guests. It also develops an activity plan linked to religious matters and studies for religious life and priesthood.

The retreat house at Convento de Balsamão has 37 rooms – all equipped with telephone, restrooms and heating – social and TV rooms, library, museum, conference rooms, cafeteria, restaurant, ballroom, a chapel and a church that has just undertaken a comprehensive restoration.
Activities: Guided tour of the convent including museum, cloisters, chapel and church. All marked hiking trails around the property. Guided visit to the famous beach at the Azibo River, tours to the cities of Macedo de Cavaleiros, Alfândega da Fé, Bragança, Miranda do Douro, Santiago de Compostela in Spain and others.
